Participants will construct and design two pendants by layering glass and firing the pieces in a kiln. After firing, a bail will be added and the finished piece will be put on a cord. Students will use their own creativity to design their pieces.

    ABOUT YOUR TEACHER:

    Julie began creating jewelry over fifteen years ago. She is talented, creative and qualified to teach just about anything: all types of metal and silversmithing, Precious Metal Clay (PMC), wire works, sheet metals, wire wrapping, fused glass, lampwork glass, wire and beading techniques. She has studied at the prestigious William Holland School of Lapidary Arts, at Rio Grande, and she is a certified PMC artisan. Her work can be seen at Gallery 782 in Biloxi, MS

     

    NOTE:

    Glass ​Fusing is the technique of stacking two or more layers of "compatible" glass and bonding different forms, and colors together to make a design and then placing the stacked glass into a kiln, where it melts (fuses) together, Because glass expands when it is heated and contracts when it cools you must use compatible glass.

     

    Class description: 

    You will design and fuse two glass Pendants . The art of fusing glass has grown quickly in popularity

      

    You will Learn:  

    You will finish two pendants, choose your own design and colors. You will learn cutting, stacking and fusing glass, including the steps involved in preparing the glass, Julie will teach you what type glass works best, tools needed, where to purchase supplies, firing schedules for kiln fired glass and finishing techniques. Learn how to attach a bail and cord necklace. Once you learn the techniques the possibilities are endless.

    Tools to Bring:   None, You will use studio tools.

     

    What to Wear:

    Comfortable or Old clothes.. Please wear closed toe shoes  .,,. Apron, Latex gloves, safety glasses and mask will be provided if needed.
