Note:

The term “metal etching” refers to the creation of a design on the surface of metal by removing some of the metal. Most metals are etched by using “ferric chloride”. Some of the “resist” used in Etching are Rubber Stamps, a Sharpie Permanent Marker, Press-n-Peel Transfer Film, and Duct Tape, just to name a few.  

 

​Class description: 

Choose the perfect design from stamps or you might want to use your artistic touch, add some color, a swarovski crystal or two, a whole lot of etching, sprinkle in some fun  and you have a delightful pair of earrings and a bracelet.

 

You will Learn: 

You will learn how to make etched copper earrings and bracelet, properly clean metal, filing, stamping,  forming and piercing  metal, doming the metal, patina with beautiful vibrant colors, and how to seal the metal to protect your colors. You will choose your colors and stamp design or draw your own art. You will learn what gauge metal works best, where to purchase metal,  which etching solution to use, safety techniques and the secret of etching inexpensively. You will also learn how to make your own ear-wiresfor your earrings. You will go home with a dazzling pair of earrings and bracelet that you created.

 

Skills Covered:

Design, use of color on metal, making earrings & bracelet, metal cleaning, filing, stamping,  forming, piercing, doming,  patina with beautiful vibrant colors, sealing, drawing on metal, what gauge metal to use, purchasing metal, how long to etch, storing etching solution,  making ear-wires, safety techniques and the secret of etching inexpensively. I will share with you all the techniques for successful and beautiful etching.

Tools to Bring: 

None ...You will use studio tooks.

 

What to Wear: 

Etching solution will stain your cloths so wear old clothes and closed-toe shoes should be worn.   Latex gloves, aprons, safety glasses  and mask will be provided if needed.
