Julie began creating jewelry over twenty years ago. She is talented, creative and qualified to teach just about anything: all types of metal and silversmithing, Precious Metal Clay (PMC), wire works, sheet metals, wire wrapping, fused glass, lampwork glass, wire and beading techniques. She has studied at the prestigious William Holland School of Lapidary Arts, at Rio Grande, and she is a certified PMC artisan. Her work can be seen at Gallery 782 in Biloxi, MS
Class description:
This class is perfect for those that want to learn the technique of making a hollow box (first step in making a hinged box) pendant, there will be multi layers of soldering, choose a beautiful cabochon for the setting to decorate your pendant and you will hand craft a bezel. By the end of this class, you will be empower to design a beautiful pieces of jewelry using some of the most creative ideas.
You will Learn:
Customize a hollow box pendant, create a beautiful design, stone setting, multi layers of soldering, stone setting using bezel wire and add cabochons, learn different embellishing techniques, secrets to soldering sterling silver without melting it, design a bail using a torch, how to solder a bezel, how to use a curved burnisher and a bezel rocker successfully, when to use hard, medium or soft solder, prep metal, filing, sanding, cleaning, texturing, quenching, annealing, how to skillfully use a third hand and tripod, what tools to use, best way to apply a texture, how to use a flex shaft, what gauge metal works best, polishing, how to patina, easy techniques to work with faceted stones and finishing techniques.
Skills Covered:
Design and build a hollow box, make bezel setting, texture and pierce metal, determine what solder to use at each step of your project, design and fabricate a bail, filing and finishing the pendant. measure the metal to form the box, solder the pieces together, why you pierce the metal,(extremely important), multi soldering techniques, prep metal, filing, sanding, cleaning, texturing, quenching, annealing, use a third hand and tripod, tools to use, texturing, use a flex shaft, what gauge metal works best, polishing, patina, working with faceted stones and finishing techniques.

What to Wear:
Closed-toe shoes is a must and if you have long hair please tie it back (we will be using torches for this project), wear old clothes. Latex gloves, apron, safety glasses and mask will be provided if needed.
What to Bring to Class:
Optional - A small notebook and reading glasses if extra magnification is needed.
