ABOUT YOUR TEACHER:

Julie began creating jewelry over fifteen years ago. She is talented, creative and qualified to teach just about anything: all types of metal and silversmithing, Precious Metal Clay (PMC), wire works, sheet metals, wire wrapping, fused glass, lampwork glass, wire and beading techniques. She has studied at the prestigious William Holland School of Lapidary Arts, at Rio Grande, and she is a certified PMC artisan. Her work can be seen at Gallery 782 in Biloxi, MS

 

NOTE

Soldering is a technique used in making and repairing jewelry where two pieces of metal (in this class sterling silver) are joined using heat and by adding a lower melting metal called solder.  The solder is used to bond the two pieces of metal together. Solder comes in hard, medium, easy and extra easy and it can be purchased in the form of chips, paste, and wire.

 

Class Descripton: ​

You will choose your own design for your earrings or you may choose to make the Foxie ring and Julie will teach you when to use hard, medium, easy and extra easy solder and in each step what works best chips, paste or wire solder. There are several fun soldering steps in this project. The information in this class will be invaluable for advancing your jewelry making skills and you will learn how much fun using a torch can be.

You will Learn:    

Expand your jewelry making skills, how much fun using a torch can be, soldering sterling silver, (and other metals copper and brass) together, learn different types of solder (hard, medium, easy, extra easy) how to select solder to use (chips, wire, paste), safety issues, setting up your workspace, tools needed, using a torch, annealing metal, quenching, pickling, cutting, texturing, forming, shaping, cleaning, finishing techniques, what gauge metal works best for the earrings,  Learn how to make decorative ear-wire. This class is so informative when it is over you will be able to use the knowledge to solder rings, pendants, bracelets and many more earrings.

​What to Wear:

You will be using a torch so please wear closed toe shoes and old clothes.  Apron, latex gloves, safety glasses and mask will be provided if needed.
