This class is so much fun to watch the colors develop as you use a torch to paint on metal, it is truly an amazing process.                          You will learn how to use a torch flame to create colorful patterns on copper to create two beautiful cuff bracelets or maybe earrings, even a pendant it you so desire. The results you achieve with flame painting is astonishing.

    ABOUT YOUR TEACHER:

    Julie began creating jewelry over fifteen years ago. She is talented, creative and qualified to teach just about anything: all types of metal and silversmithing, Precious Metal Clay (PMC), wire works, sheet metals, wire wrapping, fused glass, lampwork glass, wire and beading techniques. She has studied at the prestigious William Holland School of Lapidary Arts, at Rio Grande, and she is a certified PMC artisan. Her work can be seen at Gallery 782 in Biloxi, MS

     

    Class Description:   

    You will use a torch to paint by fire a wide varity of colors on copper,  you will then attach the flamed painted copper to a copper cuff using a cold connection process, thereby creating a one-of-kind patterned copper bracelet  and/or you might choose to make earrings or a pendant.  Flame painting is an amazing process and Julie will show you all the secrets of painting with fire.

     

    Note:

    Flame Painting is a type of craftsmanship that paints vivid colors on to metal using a flame from a torch. Using copper as your canvas and a torch as your paint brush you will obtain amazing & vibrant colors... The color is done without chemicals or paints. The color transformation is awesome to watch as you glide your torch flame over the metal.

     

    You will Learn:    

    You will learn to prepare the copper, how to use a torch flame to create a wide variety color on  copper, learn how to use cold connection techniques to complete the two bracelets,  and  you will learn polishing/finishing techniques. You will also  learn how to seal your bracelet to preserve the beautiful colors you have created from disappearing. Julie will teach you what gauge metal to use, best torch to use, type of metal works best  and she will teach safety tips.

     

    Skills Covered:

    Design, shaping, preping and cleaning metal, torch skills, combining two copper cuff's using cold connection skills, painting with flame, using a torch, sealing metal, do's and don't for perfect color, what type of metal to use, what gauge metal works best, what torch to use, safety tips and so much more. ​

    Tools Needed:  

    None...Students will use Studio tools.

     

    What to Wear:

    You will be using a torch so please wear closed toe shoes and old clothes.  Apron, latex gloves, safety glasses, apron and mask will be provided if needed.
