ABOUT YOUR TEACHER:

Julie began creating jewelry over fifteen years ago. She is talented, creative and qualified to teach just about anything: all types of metal and silversmithing, Precious Metal Clay (PMC), wire works, sheet metals, wire wrapping, fused glass, lamp-work glass, wire and beading techniques. She has studied at the prestigious William Holland School of Lapidary Arts, at Rio Grande, and she is a certified PMC artisan. Her work can be seen at Gallery 782 in Biloxi, MS

Class Description:   

It is two completely different classes all rolled into one. First you will make earrings using niobium metal, electrodes to color the metal with Vibrant color results.  Second, using copper and a torch to color a cuff and earrings, resulting in dazzling color.

Note:

Niobium Metal is a process works using a electrolytic bath, electrical current, light interference, voltage controls color and the color vivid and permanent without using any dyes or pigments. Colors can be achieved in matter of seconds with all colors found in the rainbow. It is hypoallergenic making anodized niobium very popular in making jewelry.

Flame Painting is a process that paints vivid colors on to metal using a flame from a torch. Using copper as your canvas and a torch as your paint brush you will obtain amazing & vibrant colors... The color is done without chemicals or paints. The color transformation is awesome to watch as you glide your torch flame over the metal.

You will Learn:    

You will learn to prepare the copper, how to use a torch flame to create a wide variety color on  copper, learn how to use cold connection techniques to complete the two bracelets,  and  you will learn polishing/finishing techniques. You will also  learn how to seal your bracelet to preserve the beautiful colors you have created from disappearing. Julie will teach you what gauge metal to use, best torch to use, type of metal works best  and she will teach safety tips.

​What to Wear:

You will be using a torch so please wear closed toe shoes and old clothes.  Apron, latex gloves, safety glasses, apron and mask will be provided if needed.
