This class is so much fun !! Wire braiding has become a popular technique. (It is a bit like braiding hair) we will use three copper wire, there are several ways to finish the ends but you will learn to cap the ends by soldering, Keeping the braids tight and straight is the key to a beautiful finish.

    ABOUT YOUR TEACHER:

    Julie began creating jewelry over Twenty years ago. She is talented, creative and qualified to teach just about anything: all types of metal and silversmithing, Precious Metal Clay (PMC), wire works, sheet metals, wire wrapping, fused glass, lamp-work glass, wire and beading techniques. She has studied at the prestigious William Holland School of Lapidary Arts, at Rio Grande, and she is a certified PMC artisan. Her work can be seen at Gallery 782 in Biloxi, MS

     

    NOTE:

    Braiding  wire to make a bracelet involves intertwining multiple strains of wire to form a specific pattern to create a decorative piece of jewelry. Braiding is a technique that is versatile and effective way of making a beautiful cuff with several types of finishing the ends.   

     

    Class description: 

    Julie will share with you the technique of braiding wire. The uniqueness of this cuff is the is the braiding of the 3 strains of heavier gauge square copper wire  and then solder the end caps.  

     

    You will Learn:   

    How to use a torch, braid wire, annealing, solder, bend and shape heavy gauge square wire, bracelet forming using a mandrel, filing and cleaning metal, how to cut wire, hammering wire,  what tools to use, how to work with heavy square wire, and size of wire to use. patina (optional) and finishing. Use sheet metal to finish the ends of the cuff, learn about different gauges of wire and what works best, and which type of solder to use for different torching. Last but not least you will learn safety tips.

     

    Skills Covered: 

    Torch skills, soldering, annealing, filing, sanding, cleaning, forming, techniques working with heavy gauge square  wire, using a bracelet mandrel, patina, cutting wire, using round nose pliers to bend wire,  straighten and solder wire together, make caps using sheet metal to finish the ends of the cuff, hammering, finishing and finishing  techniques.

    No experience necessary.

    Tools to Bring:   None, You will use studio tools.

     

    What to Wear:

    Closed toe shoes are a must.. you will be using a torch ...Comfortable clothes.   Apron, Latex gloves, safety glasses  and mask will be provided if needed..
